Pilot Freight Services Announces Record-Setting 2016 Revenue

LIMA, Pa.—February 14, 2017— Pilot Freight Services (Pilot), a worldwide provider of transportation and logistics services, announced today that it closed 2016 with record revenue of $579.5 million, a 4.2 percent increase from its 2015 revenue of $556.3 million.

“Pilot’s record-breaking milestones in 2016 were driven by a booming e-commerce/home delivery business and founded upon a diverse breadth of clients. That, along with our people, technology and expertise in optimizing ground, air and ocean capacity, allowed us to achieve historic success,” says Richard Phillips, chief executive officer of Pilot Freight Services.

The company handled a record 1.6 million shipments in 2016, an increase of 16.1 percent over the prior year. This accomplishment is a testament to Pilot’s investment in IT amidst a technology-driven industry, and its meticulous upkeep of driver and staff training.

An extensive and varied customer base trusted Pilot with a vast amount of shipments in the e-commerce/home delivery arena, accounting for $172.1 million of the year’s total. This topped the previous year by 39.6 percent, and comprised nearly 30 percent of the company’s overall revenue.

In the final month of the year, December 2016, Pilot enjoyed its most successful month in its 45-year history, with monthly revenue totaling $56.0 million, a 6.25 percent increase from the same month in 2015.

Throughout 2017, the company looks to continue its growth overseas while gaining traction in vertical domestic markets. Planned technology advancements will enable Pilot to continue providing customers with the cutting edge solutions needed to remain the global transportation and logistics provider of choice to some of the world’s largest companies.

Pilot Freight Services Reports Record Revenue in 2015

LIMA, Pa.—February 5, 2016— Pilot Freight Services, a worldwide provider of transportation and logistics services, announced today that it closed 2015 with record revenue of $556.3 million, an increase of 1.84 percent compared to 2014 sales volume and more than 1.4 million shipments for the year.

“Pilot’s continued ability to increase revenue is testament to our domestic and international reach, personalized service, and the customized solutions we offer customers worldwide,” says Richard Phillips, chief executive officer of Pilot. “Our people, technology, and unique understanding of how to optimize ground, ocean, and air capacity deliver real value to the marketplace and provide a demonstrative advantage we make available to some of the most sophisticated shippers in the world. Our opening of two new stations in Vancouver and Mexico City, enhances our positioning, and makes us the go-to freight forwarder serving NAFTA markets.”

In 2015, Pilot introduced a new retail services division, expanding its work with brick and mortar retailers. “Our retail services launch represents one of the most exciting developments of the year, and leverages our ability to handle shipping and visual logistics requirements for store planning, design and merchandising,” commented Phillips. “Today, we are working with major brand names, making Pilot Freight Services an ideally positioned partner for retailers seeking to better serve markets and build their market share.”

In 2015, Pilot’s National Account Domestic business represented the lion’s share of company growth, increasing 6.4 percent to $216.5 million of revenue, while international revenues grew six percent. Year over year revenue growth was diminished by considerable decreases in fuel prices. Particular pockets of opportunity were seen for Pilot Automotive, which grew 49 percent over 2014 volumes, while Pilot’s home delivery business registered a record year with revenues exceeding $123 million, representing 17.1 percent of the year’s business growth.

Pilot Freight Services Introduces Customized Service Offering for Retailers

Lima, Pa.—June 9, 2015—Pilot Freight Services announced today that it has added Retail Services to its repertoire of transportation and logistics solutions. These services involve managing and coordinating the unique logistics requirements associated with store planning and design, as well as visual merchandising. Under its Retail Services offering, Pilot will expand its work with brick and mortar retailers on projects including opening new stores, rolling out new seasonal displays, and remodeling stores.

“We’ve had a lot of success working with retailers—including a number of major brand names—on this type of work, and decided it made sense to put together a more formal offering so we can continue to expand our work in this area,” said Richard Phillips, Pilot’s CEO. “We have the experience, infrastructure, technology and ground network in place to make this a natural area of growth for us.”

The nature of the retail business requires flexibility and customization on the part of the logistics provider, as timelines for deliveries are dictated by a number of factors, including when shoppers won’t be in the store. This often requires coordination with multiple parties, including store planning managers, retail design firms, and property and store managers, which Pilot handles on behalf of its customers.

“We’re offering something that is currently missing from the marketplace: a total solution, where we own the entire logistics process, from the equipment needed, to merging product together, to working within the Pilot system to handle delivery,” said John Kelemen, vice president, special services for Pilot. “The customer will get a very personalized experience, because they’ll be working with one team that will coordinate everything, instead of having a number of vendors pieced together who need to be managed individually.”

Pilot Freight Services Opens Pilot de Mexico with new station in Mexico City

Lima, Pa.—May 5, 2015—Pilot Freight Services, a worldwide provider of transportation and logistics services, announced today that it has expanded its operations to Mexico, where it is now doing business as Pilot de Mexico. The first station under the Pilot de Mexico brand, located in Mexico City, is a full service operation serving Pilot customers’ transportation and logistics needs within the city and the interior states of Mexico. The station offers operational and administrative support, warehousing and logistics services, and access to northbound, southbound and intra-Mexico ground and air transportation.

In addition to these services, Pilot de Mexico has a sales presence in the market that expects to make an impact in the country, solidifying the company’s plans to open additional Mexican stations in the months and years ahead. Opening a station in this critical market will allow the company to provide the same level of care and expertise in Mexico that Pilot customers have come to count on in the United States and other international markets.

“For Pilot, Mexico is a market with tremendous growth and potential. Its economy is the 11th largest in the world, so it was a natural step in our continued growth,” said Richard Phillips, CEO of Pilot Freight Services. “The country has been one of the United States’ best trading partners for years, and to have a Pilot presence will only make our relationships with Pilot customers in Mexico stronger. We’re eager to get started, and confident in Pilot de Mexico’s future.”

Pilot de Mexico will be managed by Alberto Ocha, a seventeen-year veteran of the international freight forwarding industry, and will be located at Paseo de la Reforma 412, Piso 7, Suites 764, 766, 768 and 770, Colonia Juarez, Delegacion Cuauhtemoc, Mexico DF 06600.

Pilot Freight Services Closes Out Best Year in Company History

LIMA, Pa.—January 31, 2015—Pilot Freight Services, a worldwide provider of transportation and logistics services, has beat its own record, with revenue for 2014 hitting $547.9 million. This marks a 12 percent increase from the company’s previous revenue high mark of $500.6 million in 2012.

“As our business continues to expand, we increasingly find ourselves in a sweet spot in the market—big enough to have the global reach and resources that our customers require, but small enough to be able to give personalized attention and customized solutions,” said Richard Phillips, chief executive officer of Pilot. “Thanks to that niche and the unmatched customer service that our team provides, we’re in a strong position to keep growing in 2015 and beyond.”

Phillips continued, “Our growth last year was driven by a focus on our main area of strength: moving heavy-weight, expedited freight. In addition to manufacturing and retail companies, which have always been a big piece of our customer base, we made real strides this year in verticals like automotive and aviation. This strategy has really paid off for us, as has our decision to expand into additional North American locations, including Vancouver and Mexico City.” Pilot saw strong year-over-year growth in several of its business units in 2014, including home delivery (up more than 22 percent) and international (up nearly 12 percent), and was bolstered by further development of the company’s logistics offerings.

Pilot Freight Services to Open Stations in Mexico City and Vancouver

Lima, Pa.—December 03, 2014—Pilot Freight Services, a worldwide provider of transportation and logistics services, announced today that it will open stations in Mexico City, Mexico and Vancouver, Canada in the first quarter of 2015. The new locations will mark the company’s fourth and fifth international stations a significant expansion to Pilot’s international footprint. Both offices will open as full-service stations offering air, ocean, ground, import, export, logistics and home delivery services.

“We are constantly looking for ways to extend our support service offerings for our customers while at the same time expanding opportunities for growth and new business, especially internationally. That’s exactly what Mexico City and Vancouver will offer and why we are looking forward to opening these new stations,” said Gordon Branov, executive vice president of business development for Pilot Freight Services. “Both offices will help facilitate more business in and out of Canada and Mexico, and will allow Pilot to harbor new relationships as we continue to grow.

Pilot customers have asked, “When will you have something bigger and better in Mexico?” Pilot’s Mexico City location will answer that question while also allowing the company to capitalize on the country’s growth as a manufacturing hub. “Access to big decision makers, the low cost of implementation and development, as well as vendor capabilities for ground, air and ocean make Mexico City the most important location in Mexico for Pilot to have a presence. We plan to develop a national network there to support our U.S. stations,” said Branov.

Vancouver is a critical component in the I-5 corridor which runs up and down the West Coast of the U.S. into Canada. “Traffic between Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver is constantly growing and we plan to capitalize on that market,” continued Branov. Pilot Vancouver will provide more access to the Far East allowing for increased Asian import and export business, a differentiating factor from the company’s already established Toronto station. The Mexico City station will be managed by Alberto Ocha, a seventeen-year veteran of the international freight forwarding industry. The station will be located at Paseo de la Reforma 412, Piso 7, Suites 764, 766, 768, and 770 Colonia Juarez, Delegacion Cuauhtemoc, Mexico DF 06600. The Vancouver station will be managed by Lygdel DeLeon, who came to Pilot with thirteen years of experience in transportation and logistics. The station will be located at unit 245, 21320 Gordon Way Richmond, BC V6W 1J8.
